NYPL Selects New York Native as New President

We are excited to report that the Library has selected Dr. Anthony W. Marx as its next President and CEO; he will assume his post in July 2011. Dr. Marx, a distinguished political scientist, currently serves as President of Amherst College. A native New Yorker, he attended P.S. 98 and the Bronx High School of Science, spending hours after school at his neighborhood Inwood Library.

"This is a simply wonderful outcome for the Library," said President Dr. Paul LeClerc. "What impresses me most about Anthony Marx is his passionate commitment to the fundamental purpose of The New York Public Library: to inspire learning, advance knowledge, and strengthen communities."

From our Blogs:
The Romance Novels of Eva Ibbotson

New York Times best-selling author Eva Ibbotson passed away recently at the age of 85. The English novelist is best known for such fantasy and adventure books for children as The Secret of Platform 13 and The Star of the Kazan. Librarian Anne Rouyer, however, discovered Ibbotson through her historical romance novels, which have been reissued over the past few years. Anne recommends reading them on a rainy day curled up with a cup of hot chocolate.

Library Lions Photo Gallery

We had quite the turnout on November 1st at NYPL's Library Lions Gala, one of New York's most glamorous annual social events. This year's honorees included Malcolm Gladwell, Ethan Hawke, NYPL President Paul LeClerc, Steve Martin, and Zadie Smith, who joined many of the city’s top writers, artists, business and government leaders, and benefactors to celebrate and raise funds for the Library. NYPL News was there to capture the best moments of the event.
